At approximately 9:00 a.m. this morning, members of the LPD’s Special Investigations Section, under the command of Lieutenant Barry Golner; executed a search warrant at an apartment located at 725 Lawrence Street. The LPD was assisted by state troopers of the North Shore Gang Task Force, and the regional SWAT Team. Julio Gomez, 26, of this address was arrested without incident.
Police yielded (52) prescription pills (Alprazolam – a Class C controlled substance), a .25 caliber semiautomatic handgun, and ammunition. Gomez is alleged to be affiliated with the OLB (Outlaw Local Bloods) street gang.
Gomez has been charged with Unlawful Possession of a Class C Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Improper Storage of a Firearm, Possession of a Class C Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute in a School Zone (Elizabeth Family Childcare), and Career Criminal While Armed.
“Illegal drugs are the root cause of most crime that occurs in our city and throughout the country. The Lowell Police Department will continue its drug enforcement efforts and utilize every available resource to eradicate illegal drugs and guns from the City of Lowell,” said Superintendent Ken Lavallee.
Gomez is expected to be arraigned tomorrow morning in Lowell District Court. No booking photo at this time.
These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
